A Sickie’s Sister

Momma, ‘member last summer when Annie was sick and we lived in ‘delphia at Old McDonald’s Farm? ‘Member the cookies that we got when we put quarters in? ‘Member the red car that my got to ride to Annie’s room? That was fun, Momma, but do we have to do that again?

Welcome to school! Please fill out the information about your child.

Child’s Fears/Concerns:

The word “sick” is a trigger word. If she hears “sick” she thinks hospital, surgery, separation from family, life interrupted. When someone says “sick” she panics and peppers, “Where’s Annie going?! What’s wrong with Annie?! Is you and Annie going to ‘delphia again?”

Will Child Ever Need After Care:

No. Well, wait, I don’t know.  I hope not. Okay maybe she might. Because see there were a few times last year when things didn’t exactly go as planned.

List the names of people who can pick up your child:

  1. Mom
  2. Dad
  3. Teacher Aunt
  4. Sister Aunt
  5. Almost Aunt…that should be good. But wait, what if we have to go to ‘delphia again?
  6. Add Juju
  7. Add bestie to ensure someone–anyone–would remain local and available in case of unwanted, always-to-be-expected emergency.

Annie, when you get bigger bigger you can go to Daddy’s school too! Right, Momma? Annie, you can be in my class! I’ll share my snack with you. Oh and Momma, I want to go to the pet store to pick out a pet…no TWO pets: a dog for me and a cat for Annie because Annie really likes cats. And I’ll tell my teacher I need TWO stickers: one for me and one for Annie!

Annie! They’re ‘gaged. They’re gonna have a wedding. We can be in the wedding. And you know what, Annie? When I’m ‘gaged you can be the flower girl in my wedding too! But don’t get your dress dirty.

Why would she think she'd get her dress dirty?

Why would she think she’d get her dress dirty?

I am thankful for the sweet sisterness they share, and I pray daily that all of Audrey’s sister dreams come true.

“Bless you, my darling, and remember you are always in the heart–oh tucked so close there’s no chance of escape–of your sister.” -Katherine Mansfield
